The official release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong is yet to be revealed, but fans on Reddit are clearly excited about many things in the game.
Fans of Hollow Knight, one of 2017’s buzziest video games, are patiently waiting for its long-overdue follow-up, Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was announced in 2019. The original Metroidvania 2D platformer was well-received due to its immersive atmosphere, moving story, extremely challenging stages, and distinct art style.
It has been three years since the trailer for Silksong was revealed to the world during a Nintendo direct event, and there’s still no official release date from the game’s developer, Team Cherry. On Reddit, fans are sharing what they’re looking forward to the most in the much-awaited sequel.
In Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hornet is kidnapped and taken to a new kingdom called Pharloom. Despite the change in location, setting, and environment, many fans still want to see a link between Hallownest and the new world Hornet finds herself in.

Aside from a clear “connection to Hallownest”, Redditor Kiyopawn says that they want to see familiar faces like Iselda, Zote, Bretta, and the Stag in Silksong. The charms and the Grimm Troupe are also some throwbacks to Hollow Knight that might make an appearance in the much-awaited sequel.
What attracted a lot of gamers to the first Hollow Knight was its art style. The different areas had their own unique art and visuals that ranged from gloomy blues and greys to an electrifyingly vibrant underwater motif.
Based on the trailer and gameplay teaser, Hollow Knight: Silksong will also have the same kind of art style as the original. Redditor Hi123Hi321 is particularly excited for the sequel’s art style, saying, “The art work so I have more places to draw.” They also continue by saying that the locations shown in the trailer looked incredibly stunning.
Besides testing the player’s skills in two different boss fights, Hornet was also known in the first Hollow Knight game for her battle chants, “Shaw!” and, “Hegale!” That’s why in Hollow Knight: Silksong, gamers are excited to read and hear what Hornet will say as the protagonist of the game, unlike the silent main character of the first game who had zero battle chants and lines.
On Reddit, user armin-lakatos notes that they’re very much excited for “Hornet’s witty dialogues,” and are hoping for an evil Hornet clone boss fight.
The varying enemy mechanics and combat system are just two of the many reasons why players think that Hollow Knight is deceptively difficult. The players have also found themselves stuck in certain areas of the game due to its lack of directions and progression signs. Because of that, some players are forced to explore the game on their own, taking them a while to clear and move past an area.
However, user PhantasmShadow highlights that they can’t wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong so they can be in charge of their own adventure. Assuming that the sequel’s narrative direction is the same as the original game, the Redditor notes, “Perhaps the largest reason I’m excited for Silksong is that I’ll be able to enjoy it and discover it […] on my own.”
Hollow Knight‘s combat mechanics were unmatched for a platformer. The combat-heavy game required the players to be smart about the timing and pattern of their attacks while taking note of the platformer’s environment. Despite the next-level combat mechanics, Hollow Knight was still lacking some sort of interactivity between the attacks and the environment.

In a Reddit thread, user Pretty-Ask4443 explains that he wants to see “Knock back physics, and movement interactions such as the nail clipping through ledges or hitting certain points like the knight warps” in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
The lore of Hollow Knight is expansive and engrossing. Aside from having enchanting and mystifying concepts like the higher beings, the Radiance, and the Void, the game also introduced a colorful cast of beasts and enemies that made the game more fun to play.
That’s why some players are excited to see what other enemies lie in the land of Pharloom. Reminiscing the Hunter’s Journal in Hollow KnightRemarkable-Poet-7256 says, “I also can’t wait to see all of the new enemies. Bestiaries are one of my favorite things to fill out, so new creatures are very exciting.”
Hollow Knight has arguably one of the best soundtracks in video game history. As the player moves around the different areas in Hallownest, the music adapts and matches the visual environment to immerse the player in the game.
Redditor GlassEvent2622 comments, “Yeah, the music I think is something to look forward to…” The user further proves their love for the game’s soundtrack, by saying that they listen to some of the tracks on repeat. Thankfully, Team Cherry announced that the game’s original composer, Christopher Larkin, has returned to do the original soundtrack for Hollow Knight: Silksong.
It’s pretty much established that Hollow Knight is a difficult game due to its combat mechanics, platforming aspects, and narrative style. However, players are motivated to push through due to the game’s memorable characters and rewarding story.

But of course, some boss fights in the game have stumped players, forcing them to take a step back and rethink their approach. But this hasn’t stopped some from wanting the same kind of difficulty in Hollow Knight: Silksong. User AGeneric_RAR answers in a Reddit thread that they want to see more boss fights in Hollow Knight: Silksong, and goes as far as saying, “I really hope they’re harder than some in Hollow Knight“.
Some of the most difficult Metroidvania games have incredibly complex platforming segments that will surely challenge even diehard fans of the genre. In Hollow Knight, there are plenty of hard platforming sections, like the ones found in Crystal Peak and Queen’s Gardens.
On Reddit, user _mirec says that they want to see grueling platforming sections in Hollow Knight: Silksong that would remind them of Path of Pain, which is a sub-area in the White Palace. But they do acknowledge that this might not be possible, given that “Hornet’s playstyle in the demo looks like it would better suit for combat.”
Hallownest is a world full of vibrant and diverse environments. From the eerie and desolate land of The Abyss to the lush and foliage-filled world of Greenpath, the different regions in Hollow Knight also offer an assorted mix of challenges and enemies.
From its short teaser, fans have spotted that Hollow Knight: Silksong also has a variety of exciting worlds that are ripe for exploration.  Reddit user Andyen2 points out that they’re particularly interested in exploring the Coral Forest and “…that town made of bells.” when Hollow Knight: Silksong gets released.
